As the lyrics to Darren’s song goes, Irish is definitely worth the wait. Who would’ve thought that a simple Filipina living in Singapore will capture his heart and through her he will know the meaning of forever. They are one of the coolest and hippest couple that I have ever met and it’s cute how their attitudes compliment each other despite the cultural differences.
We Filipinos have this picture of how a Singaporean is in our minds. We often know them as very serious, competitive and workaholic and when I met Darren together with his family and friends, that image is now gone. I now see them as patient, fun and just like us… adventure seekers.
On the other hand, they also have this perception of how Filipinos are. When I first asked Irish what Darren thought the Philippines is like, he said that it’s small and that we have no malls. He thought everything is like a rural area but when he got here he was amazed of how many malls are in Cavite alone and he fell in love not just with Irish but also with the Philippines.
Congratulations Darren and Irish! See you again soon.
